Phenomenon is an art superstructure: Art studios, Gallery and storage for artworks. The space is located in the centre of Reykjavík City and next to The Reykjavík Sculpture Association.
All of the pieces in the show are for sale and all from 1-50.000 kr. The purpose of that is to courage everyone to invest in contemporary art and design. Also to support the artists/designers that have their studio in the Phenomenon building as well as our local friends.
This is a very unique phenomenon in Reykjavik that you can source and purchase artwork straight from the artist studio. So go ahead, enjoy Art, as a gift to others or just a heck of an investment straight from the makers.

“Democracy is Hot-Dog” is a video by Steinunn Gunnlaugsdóttir that was premiered in the spring of 2009.
The video is about democracy and the alleged freedom of choice consisting in voting. Iceland’s national dish, pulsa (hot-dog), represents democracy, downtown Reykjavík’s hot-dog stand (Bæjarins Beztu) is the voting booth and the elections are the citizens’ choice between toppings and sauces. The hot-dog itself, however, is not a choice – it shall be devoured by each and every citizen, if not voluntarily then with force.
The piece is screened on every parliamentary election day in Iceland.
Coming Closer
Some approaches on how to get closer to our natural-self. Humans looking into a microscope, revealing the tree in the material and embodying the nature that we habitually see. It’s about relationship.
